3 Foods That Help Fight Diabetes

Diabetes affects millions of people across the globe on a daily basis, and we want to help you achieve a healthier lifestyle while giving your taste buds some excitement! I mean, who wants to sit around and eat sugar free candy all day? No one, so we have done the hard research for you so that you can keep some variety in your life, and not have worry if you are following doctor’s orders or not. The three super foods we have in store for you today are Sunflower seeds, Salmon, and kidney beans. We are in this fight together and we want to help you be in control of your life and your health.

1. Sunflower Seeds

Sunflower seeds are a great source of protein, fiber, and other vitamins and minerals. More importantly, this little power house of a snack, according to most researchers, also has the best kind of fat content. The type of fat found within the kernels of sunflower seeds is known as polyunsaturated fat which is considered the best fat to consume for patients suffering with diabetes.

Additionally, sunflower seeds also give your body an additional boost by providing you with copper, vitamin B1, and thiamine. If you eat an entire ounce of sunflower seeds you can expect to get about 512 micrograms of copper which is used to help make melanin. You might be wondering, okay, but what does that do? Melanin helps your body fight UV radiation from the sun while the copper itself will help increase your metabolism!

2. Salmon

We also have some great news for you Salmon lovers out there, and guess what? You don’t have to stop eating Salmon, because it is recommended by the American Diabetes Association! Salmon contains high omega-3 fat content; however, Salmon remains very low in saturated fat. In case you didn’t know, this is important because diabetic patients are at a higher risk for developing cardiovascular problems, and you need all the help you can get in order to stay healthy and kick diabetes square in the behind!

3. Kidney Beans

That’s right, you don’t have to give up those delicious kidney beans either. The reason that these suckers are part of a diabetic meal plan is because they contain something known as “slow” carbohydrates. Basically, when you eat kidney beans you don’t have to worry about your blood sugar going out of control because of these slow carbohydrates. A cup of kidney beans that is fully cooked contains about 39 grams of carbohydrates and only .6 grams of sugar. Also, eating kidney beans will also help you have regular bowel movements. In case anyone is curious, a cup of kidney beans contains about 13 grams of fiber.

Why Should You Eat These Three Foods?

If you are wanting to help get in control of a healthy lifestyle and fight diabetes, I suggest you take a long hard look at your current diet and throw these three foods into the mix and see how they will help you keep winning in the fight against diabetes. Many people that suffer with diabetes often think of boring, unsatisfying diets; but, we are here to tell you that your diet doesn’t have to be boring. Get creative with these foods! There are many recipes you can find online to help satiate those taste buds and beat diabetes to a pulp!
